Does Lucid Dreaming Get Easier?

Woman frustrated trying to lucid dream

Lucid dreaming is an amazing skill that opens up a whole new world of possibilities to the dreamer. If you are interested in the topic then you will have heard amazing stories of the exciting and life-changing experiences lucid dreamers have had. But, you will also have heard about how difficult it can be to have a lucid dream. Does lucid dreaming get easier over time or will you be forever battling to enter the state of lucidity?

With time and practice lucid dreaming gets easier. After you experience your first lucid dream it gets easier to induce the lucid dreaming state. By practicing specific techniques within your lucid dreams it also gets easier to control all aspects of the dreamworld. However, like an unused muscle, the skill of lucid dreaming will atrophy if not used regularly.

Lucid dreaming gets easier the more you do it

Anyone who has ever heard of lucid dreaming automatically wants to be able to do it – with the exception of those who are afraid of facing their inner demons and fears and/or those who mistakenly think it’s a sin.

If you fall into one of those categories then reading the articles should I be scared to lucid dream and is lucid dreaming a sin will soon dispel your fears and set your mind at rest.

Lucid dreaming is a natural, fun activity that can even help you improve your life in the waking world.

However, we have all heard just how hard it can be to lucid dream. Is that really true though?

Learning how to lucid dream can actually be very easy for some people.

There are lucky individuals who can try just one or two lucid dreaming techniques and then, as if by magic, they enter the state of dream lucidity and are able to replicate that whenever they want to.

But there are even luckier individuals than that.

There are natural spontaneous lucid dreamers who lucid dream every night without even trying.

For the rest of us though, we must put in the work for the rewards that lucid dreaming offers.

For the vast majority of people there are no shortcuts to lucid dreaming – we must learn how to do it through practice.

No matter what anyone tells you, or how many automated clickbait YouTube videos you watch, for most of us it takes effort and commitment to lucid dream.

If you are like the vast majority of  people on the planet then in order to learn to lucid dream you must diligently and persistently use proven lucid dreaming techniques in order to teach your brain to “wake up” within your dreams.

Although most lucid dreaming techniques are easy to learn, and just as easy to implement, it does take effort and persistence before you can have your first lucid dream.

This leads many people to wonder if lucid dreaming is even worth the effort? Let me assure you, it is! And luckily, it gets easier the more you do it.

Lucid dreaming gets easier the more you do it.

By far the most difficult lucid dream to have is your first one.

After that, each successive lucid dream becomes easier to enter.

But it isn’t just entering the state of dream lucidity that gets easier over time.

Acquiring the skills to fully control your dreams within a lucid dream also gets easier over time.

Entering a lucid dream gets easier with time

Your first lucid dream is usually the hardest one to have simply because you are learning a new skill.

You are teaching your brain to perform in a different way and this takes patience and persistence.

However, once your brain learns this new skill it becomes easier for it to replicate it and enter the state of lucidity whenever you want.

And, like any skill, you get better at it the more you do it.

Once your brain learns that certain actions you take (lucid dreaming techniques) are designed to induce the lucid dreaming state, it naturally becomes conditioned to create that lucid dreaming state whenever you perform those actions.

Human beings are hardwired to develop habitual patterns so that repeating certain actions becomes easy, natural and automatic.

So, when you create the habit of lucid dreaming, lucid dreaming becomes automatic and thus gets easier.

In fact, lucid dreaming can become so habitual that over time you may also find that you will start to have spontaneous lucid dreams without the need to perform any lucid dreaming induction techniques at all.

Although this does not happen to every lucid dreamer it is very common.

If you do start to have spontaneous lucid dreams you will also find that they become more frequent over time.

If having spontaneous lucid dreams is not something you want to experience however, as may lucid dreamers prefer to be in control of when they have lucid dreams, then read our article how to stop having lucid dreams.

This article gives you techniques to stop lucid dreams from occurring either temporarily (which has its advantages) or permanently (though why you want that is beyond me).

Controlling your dreams gets easier with practice

Just as entering the state of dream lucidity gets easier the more you do it, so too does controlling the dreamworld get easier each time you practice doing it.

Although you will likely learn how to best control storylines, characters, scenes etc., in your lucid dreams over time on your own, you can actually accelerate this process by practicing specific advanced lucidity techniques.

So, as you practice the skills of controlling and changing things in your lucid dreams, you get better at doing it and the easier it gets.

Within a short space of time you will be able to do anything in a lucid dream.

Why lucid dreaming can sometimes get more difficult

Although lucid dreaming does get easier the more you do it, it can get more difficult to do when you take a break from it.

If you allow yourself to go long periods without lucid dreaming then it can get harder to enter the state of lucidity again once you try to do it.

Of course, it will never be as difficult as it was to have your first lucid dream but, like all skills, your ability to induce lucidity will wane if you don’t do it regularly.

“Regularly” will usually mean at least once every two weeks or preferably at least once per week.

If you have at least one lucid dream every week then your night skills will keep improving and you will get more proficient and all aspects of lucid dreaming.
