Ask any lucid dreamer what it’s like to lucid dream and they will tell you it’s a blast. Fantasy fulfilment, new experiences and amazing adventures in a world where you are not subject to the laws of psychics, or the dictates of society, has its appeal. But with the explosion of interest in the law of attraction many people claim that they can manifest using lucid dreams.

Does Lucid Dreaming Help Manifest Things?
There is no clear evidence that lucid dreaming can be used to manifest objects in the waking world.
It does, however, offer a direct line of communication with the subconscious mind and has been shown to be a very effective tool for affecting real personal change.
It can be used as a manifestation tool to improve real world skills, to study better and as a way of overcoming emotional issues.
How you can manifest using lucid dreams
Using lucid dreaming to manifest what you want in the waking world is a topic that is the subject of hot debate.
There tends to be 3 views held by lucid dreamers as far as manifesting through dreams is concerned.
The 3 views on lucid dreaming manifestation are:
- Lucid dreaming can be used as a form of enhanced visualization to manifest anything you want.
- Lucid dreaming can be used to manifest real-world changes but only in a restricted way.
- Lucid dreaming only happens in the mind and therefore everything in a lucid dream stays in the mind. It has no effect at all on the outside world.
So, which view is correct?
I intend to answer that question in detail in this article. So buckle your seatbelt Dorothy cause Kansas is going bye-bye (sorry, but I love The Matrix – which incidentally is very much what lucid dreaming fees like).
Let’s look at the above mentioned views and the groups that hold them a little more closely.
On one side you have the pragmatic lucid dreaming group of people who believe that the lucidity dream state only happens in the mind and therefore everything that is related to lucid dreaming is restricted to the mind. If it happens in the mind it stays in the mind.
They believe lucid dreaming is fun but has no real-world applications. This group is 100% wrong as I will easily demonstrate in this article.
On the other side you have the second group filled with law of attraction enthusiasts who believe that you lucid dreams can be used to manifest.
They believe that just as you can do anything you want in a lucid dream, lucid dreaming can also be used to to manifest just about anything you want in real life, when you know how to use it correctly.
In the middle are the group of lucid dreamers (myself included) who have experience with actually using lucid dreaming to make real, tangible, and quantifiable changes in the waking world.
They know from experience that lucid dreaming can affect reality, but probably not in the way you think. More on this later.
Before I address the effectiveness of lucid dreaming for manifestation, we need to investigate if manifestation is even possible and, if it is, how it works.
How manifestation normally works
Manifesting or manifestation is the act of creating, or attracting to yourself, real tangible things and experiences through the use of esoteric techniques.
This usually works through some form of mental imagery such as visualization.
There are a ton of websites dedicated to this subject and it is such a far-reaching topic that I could not possibly go into detail about it here.
YouTube channels and videos, such as this one, highlight how you can use your imagination in some creative ways to manifest whatever you want. No matter how impossible it seems.
These are big claims that require big evidence.
Does such evidence exist?
That is a very volatile question that results in answers that vary from the definite “yes” to the definite “no”.
At the metaphysical level, manifestation and manifesting are a direct result of your imaginal acts.
How you think and feel is more important than what you do.
It is believed that when you think and feel like a person who already has what you want, you will attract that thing to yourself.
Visualization is the most common tool used for manifesting.
On a baser level, the art of using your imagination, through visualization for example, can train your mind for success without it being able to manifest anything.
Visualization, from a pragmatic point of view, merely prepares you for the attainment of what you want.
It is absolutely true that if you think and feel like someone who already has what you now want, then you are more likely to take similar actions to the person you are emulating.
Thus you will automatically do similar things to the person who has what you already want.
These actions will then lead you to the thing that you want, i.e. think and feel like a winner and you naturally act like a winner and thus you will get the results that those winning actions produce.
There is no doubt that this manifestation approach to altering the world around you and making changes within yourself has a place in self-improvement and personal growth.
But does it create, or manifest, things?
Well, whether visualization actually creates, or attracts, tangible things to you or not, may not actually matter.
It’s the fact that it helps you to stay focused on what you want, which then has a huge impact on your conscious and subconscious actions, is the real magic.
Visualizing what you want trains your mind and body to take the actions that result in you getting what you want.
How does manifesting and visualization relate to lucid dreaming?
Can you manifest through lucid dreams the way people claim you can do through visualization?
Manifesting through lucid dreaming
So is it possible to manifest through lucid dreaming?
You can manifest changes in the waking world through lucid dreaming in very specific ways.
You can improve existing skills, study for better retention and recall and even address inner issues for emotional healing and personal growth.
There is even evidence to suggest lucid dreaming can make you smarter.
Lucid Dreaming has the same effect as visualization in many respects.
People who claim that lucid dreams can be used to manifest things in the waking world, hold the view that lucid dreaming is the highest form of creative visualization.
And, as it is believed in metaphysical circles that visualization can be used to manifest anything you want, it makes sense for them to believe that lucid dreaming can be used for the same aims.
The more subjective view of visualization states that it can only be used to help program the mind and body for changes but that it has no effect at all on the world outside your body.
Visualization is deemed, by the more pragmatic-minded, to be merely a psychological tool for personal change.
It is viewed as a powerful vehicle for behavioral change only.
I have written about the effectiveness of visualization a few times on this site and cited studies that support its efficacy – including evidence provided by NASA.
You can read more about it here where I show how it can help with programming the mind and here where I cover the NASA studies into the effectiveness of visualization for training astronauts.
At its basic level visualization, which is the most common tool used for manifesting, is a way for communicating your desires to the subconscious mind.
As both are ways for communicating with the subconscious mind it should comes as no surprise that anything you can achieve from visualization, you can achieve from lucid dreaming.
Does this mean you can manifest with lucid dreaming?
Well, let’s take a look at that now.
Lucid dreaming subconscious communication
Because lucid dreaming gives us direct communication with the subconscious we can safely say that it can be used to consciously pass instructions to the subconscious.
In this way it is possible to program the deepest levels of mind for desired change.
How do you communicate with the subconscious mind in a lucid dream to affect change?
There are multiple ways to communicate with your subconscious mind in a lucid dream.
The easiest, and most common, way for subconscious communication in a lucid dream is simply asking the dream out loud for answers, clarifications or guidance.
The answer may come in audible form, a feeling or knowing, or via an experience.
The subconscious mind can also answer you via a dream character. You can also create, or summon, a dream character to act as an intermediary between you and your subconscious mind.
If you want to communicate directly with your subconscious mind creating a dream character that represents the subconscious is a very effective way of doing it.
Many people who wish to work on internal issues, over past traumas or eliminate emotional blocks will create famous psychoanalysts such as Carl Jung or Sigmund Freud to act as a therapist for them.
These dream therapists then become your direct line to your subconscious mind and can give you some really great advice and help you overcome some very deep issues.
Watch the video below for some ideas about how you can communicate with the subconscious mind in a lucid dream.
How does this ability to communicate directly with the subconscious mind relate to manifesting?
Well, if you believe that the key to manifesting is programming the subconscious mind then lucid dreaming is a very powerful way to do that.
Manifesting With Lucid Dreaming – The How To
When I want to program my mind with a new belief, or wish to form a new habit, or even when I want to program myself to reach a goal or attain a tangible object, I will go to my lucid dreaming computer room.
This is a room I have created that remains the same in all my dreams.
I initially created this computer room while wide awake. I visualized all the aspects of the room and then simply made the intention that it would exist in my next lucid dream.
I could just as easily have allowed my subconscious mind to create the room, by intending it within a lucid dream. However, I knew I would want to reuse this room over many lucid dreams and also wanted it to feel under my conscious control.
Hence this is why I designed it outside of the dream world.
Although this room is very large I deliberately keep it sparsely furnished.
Its main furnishing are one large oak desk, one desktop computer with a keyboard, a mouse and a very large monitor.
The only other piece of furniture in the room is a large glass-fronted cabinet that stands about 6 feet tall.
In this cabinet are representations of things I have manifested through lucid dream subconscious mind programming.
The cabinet contains a bunch of varied items such as a toy Land Rover Evoque, a collectible Harley Davidson Fat Boy, and a miniature of my current house.
It also contains creative representations of more abstract things that I have manifested, such as an award for reaching one millions visitors per month across my websites and an award for losing 50lbs of body fat.
There are still a few empty shelves in the cabinet for future manifestations but the room has been designed with plenty of space for other cabinets once this one is filled.
All the toys, models and awards in my dream cabinet act to represent real things that I have manifested in my life.
I have programmed my subconscious mind to populate a shelf in my cabinet with an appropriate representation of my achieved goal when I manifest it in the real world.
The only things that can be included are things that I have programmed using my lucid dream computer.
I am sometimes just as excited to see what my subconscious mind uses as a goal representation in the cabinet than I am at achieving the goal.
I found that the more I used my lucid dream computer room the more powerful it became.
The room actually acts as a self-fulfilling prophecy for me now.
When I enter the room I can see “evidence” of past manifestations in my cabinet and this makes me feel more confident that what I add to my dream computer will manifest without trouble.
The lucid dreaming manifestation process
Here’s how I program my subconscious mind through lucid dreaming.
When I have a goal I want to accomplish, or a personal character trait I wish to remove or develop in myself, I enter a lucid dream and will/intend myself into my computer room.
Once in the computer room I remind myself that the computer in the room represents a direct line to my subconscious mind.
I initially chose a computer as a way for communicating with my subconscious mind because I have a background in computer programming, having studied computer sciences at university.
I think that programming the computer is a great analogy for programming the subconscious mind.
However, I sometimes ask questions and receive answers via the computer monitor though I mostly use it for programming goals.
Once in my computer room I simply sit down at my desk and start typing my commands into the computer.
In the beginning I used to write computer code into a compiler on the computer very much the same way I would write code in the waking real world.
But in one lucid dream a very helpful dream character, totally out of the blue and out of context of the dream, told me that it was unnecessary to use computer code in my computer room.
They told me that all I had to do was write my desires into a word document and save them and my subconscious mind would do the rest.
I have since used that approach and it works just fine. I have had a lot of success at attaining goals using this approach.
Now, I should add that I have never manifested anything out of fresh air nor have I had any major miraculous manifestations drop into my lap.
All changes I made and goals that I attained from using my computer room can be traced back to real-world actions that I took.
However, I should also state that I have manifested some things easily using this technique which prior to using my “computer room” I found impossible to manifest no matter what actions I took.
I still needed to take action to achieve those things, but the action I took resulted in failure prior to using my computer room and success after I used it.
You can use a similar approach to lucid dream manifesting or you can create an entirely different type of manifesting vehicle within your lucid dreams.
The key thing to remember is that whatever you use just be aware that the entire lucid dream is only in existence because your subconscious mind is active and alert just as you are consciously active and alert at the same time.
Therefore anything you want to use to communicate with the subconscious will work for you.
You may find it helpful to learn advanced lucid dreaming techniques while also being able to talk to other lucid dreamers.
Training in advanced controlled-dreaming techniques, offers you the ability to ask other lucid dreamers how they use their lucid dreams to manifest.
